Last show of April

Today I am packing up the Subaru for a lovely drive tomorrow down to San Diego for this weekend’s Mission Federal ArtWalk.

**Artist plug: I will be on Fir Street, around the corner from Blick Art Supply, tent #717. See you there this weekend! 11-6 each day.**

It is the fourth and final showing of my art this month. What a month it has been! Every show is a wonderful blend of connecting with all sorts of amazing people and the satisfaction of sending off my creations to their new homes. This weekend will be one of my favorites, as I spent 11 years in San Diego, and visited this particular ArtWalk when I was looking for my first apartment in the area. Oh have I changed since then, and it feels like these shows have been part of that journey.

May will bring a little more calm into my life, though some Sundays I will be setting up my tent at the weekly Joshua Tree Arts and Crafts Festival, where the Farmers market is on Saturdays. Half a day, hanging out with locals and tourists, selling a few things here and there, it’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning.

As I am packing my car with paintings and prints, I keep catching the eye of this guy.

He and I have spent some quality time together. Inspired by the quail who peck around the dirt outside my studio window and who’s calls echo throughout the sunsets, his little personality brings me joy every time I look at him. I’ve used him for my newsletter and my new business cards this year, and my favorite description of him was from a British lady at the Indian Wells Art Show. She described him as “cheeky.” I couldn’t agree more.

acclimation

May 28th, 2016 | Posted by jesskeylon in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Almost two full months of living in the desert and I am getting the hang of it all.

A little extra water, sunscreen, lotion, hat and I am good to go (and by a little, I mean a lot)

Mission Federal ArtWalk in San Diego was a nice break to hang out in the coastal region (thank you all who came out and bought some art!), but I found myself glad to be back amongst the dry dusty prickly allure of my new town. The art scene here is hoppin. Sure it may not be a well polished, plastic Los Angeles gallery who’s who scene; instead it’s a brash unabashed and free to create without constraints who’s who scene. Just entered a piece for a group show next month (I’ll let you know if I get in) and I look forward to meeting my fellow weirdo artists out here. This town is crawling with them!

Also it’s springtime still, and for the last couple of months the weather has been absolutely lovely with critters going at it and producing the cutest mini-critters, which are now at every turn. I know this weather will not last, the cacti flowers will fade and the intensity of the sun will dramatically increase to hellish levels, but I still love it. It’s so beautiful and peaceful and surprisingly alive in it’s desolateness.

I leave you with a shot of a baby bunny on my front porch.

I’ve been busy putting together my finished art pieces and prints for you folks in San Diego!

Yes it’s true I don’t live in San Diego anymore, but I will be visiting this weekend in order to participate in this year’s Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy near downtown San Diego. I have a great spot on India Street where I will be gazing at Blick Art Supplies.

Come on down Saturday or Sunday to tent #910. Also on that block will be my friends at Scripps Health, who will be letting everyone participate in a huge coloring sheet mural which I designed and inked out.

If I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to you, now is the chance to come by in person and say hello (and then goodbye), all while stocking up on some new art for you walls.

See you this weekend!

busy little paintings

I started with 15 of these 4×4 little wooden panels, started drawing circles on them, painted some awesome colors, and now I am adding creatures.
I like them so much, I just ordered 50 more. I can’t wait until they get here. Oh the possibilities! Back to painting I go.

ArtWalk NTC was a great time, I met some wonderful artists and lovely folks walking around enjoying the art.

Thank you all who stopped by to visit, it was a hot, humid weekend and seeing everyone’s smiling faces made the heat much more tolerable.
A success! Now back to painting.
