foundation

Born and raised in Southern California, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating something fun. With my dad a woodworker, and my mom a seamstress, my brother and I grew up making things constantly. “If you want it done right, do it yourself” was the motto around the house and I am still in that mindset today (to the extent that I built my own home).

It took me a while to take the leap to being a professional artist, but once I did, I never looked back. In 2016 I moved out to the desert and fell in love with the landscape and creative community. I opened up my studio in the old western movie set of Pioneertown a year later.

desert life

The desert quiet has dramatically shaped my being. The rocky dusty terrain, extra terrestrial plantlife, cute and not so cute critters, and the serene gentleness (on a non-windy day); it has all seeped into my blood and made me a better person. My partner and I built my house amongst such a surreal backdrop, every morning is a visual shock of beauty. The artist community has been a lovely cast of characters. Never really understood the concept of community until I moved out here. Now I have a great group of other artists around, encouraging each other and enjoying being support in each other’s lives. I highly recommend coming out to this neck of the woods (desert?) if you get a chance and if you do, please shop local.

why all the rabbits?

So if you have seen my art, you may have noticed the reoccurring theme of rabbits. Why rabbits? I am obsessed! They have been in my life from the start. I had a pet rabbit growing up named Skittles, and we lived across the street from Rabbit Hill in the Conejo Valley (spanish translation: conejo: rabbit). True to it’s name, we had a lot of little bunnies hopping around the sleepy little suburb. When I moved out to the desert and saw all the long earred critters, I knew I had found a good home. In this desert we have two types of rabbits; the cute fluffy cottontails and the huge muscular lean giant-eared jack rabbits (or desert hares). I always see them on my dirt roads and around my house and in town behind my studio. I see them everywhere. They casually hop by me… etc etc… you get the idea. I like rabbits, so I paint them… a lot. The rabbit is me, I am the rabbit…
